Here is what “shredding” means, and how lessons get a student there.
What shredding is
Shredding is fast, precise lead playing: rapid scale runs, alternate picking, legato, tapping and sweep picking. It belongs mostly to rock and metal, and it’s built on the same foundations as every other style, played with more speed and control.
What it takes
Speed comes last. Before it come clean fretting, a picking hand that stays relaxed, a solid sense of time and a good ear. Players who chase speed too early tend to build tension and sloppy habits that are hard to undo. A teacher sets the order: accuracy first, then a metronome, then tempo raised a little at a time.
A wide range of approaches
Not every electric student wants to shred. Some want to play rhythm in a band, some want blues, others want to learn the solos from the songs they grew up with. Lessons start from that goal, and teachers choose the exercises and songs that lead to it.
Bassem is a great teacher and helped me improve my skill and technique in a short amount of time 👍 …
